Wheel of the Year: Imbolc
Dear Friend,
As the days slowly lengthen and we move closer to spring, I wanted to share with you a little history about Imbolc, one of my favorite seasonal festivals deeply rooted in Scottish tradition. Imbolc, celebrated around February 1st, marks the halfway point between the winter solstice and the spring equinox. It’s a time to honor Brigid, the goddess of poetry, fertility, and healing, and to invite the light back into our lives after the darkness of winter.
In Scotland, Imbolc has long been a time of ritual and reflection. Traditionally, households would light candles and fires to symbolize the return of warmth and light. Offerings of milk or butter were made to Brigid as an expression of gratitude and hope for the fertile months ahead. This festival is a reminder of the cyclical nature of life and the importance of tending to our inner and outer worlds as we prepare for growth.
My Imbolc Rituals
I’ve created a graphic with the rituals I personally practice during Imbolc, which I’ve included for you to download. These simple, meaningful actions help me reconnect with myself, my community, and the cycles of nature.
These rituals help me weave tradition into my modern life, blending the wisdom of the past with the needs of the present. I hope they inspire you to create your own practices that feel just right for you.
Why It Matters
Imbolc reminds us that even in the smallest moments of stillness, seeds are being planted. Whether you’re rekindling a creative spark, reimagining your self-care routine, or just savoring the return of sunlight, this is a time to lean into the energy of possibility.
I’d love to hear how you’re celebrating this time of year. Feel free to reply to this email or share your thoughts on Instagram by posting pics of your Imbolc and tagging me. Your stories always inspire me, and I love being in community with you.
Wishing you light, clarity, and all the blessings of the season,
Warmly,
Margaret
