The Next 25 Weeks
It's high time we got down to business, kids.
Hey there,
I’m here because of my parents.
I mean, we’re all here because of our parents, but I mean something deeper—
I’m in your inbox talking about self-care like I’m the scientist in Don’t Look Up because of my parents, both of whom are deceased.
They died bookending the pandemic—April 18, 2020, and October 2, 2022—leaving me with lessons I can’t ignore.
🌀 Their reality:
- My mother smoked a pack a day.
- My father was pickled drunk for decades.
- Neither moved their body.
- Neither took a break.
- Neither nurtured their spirit.
- Both were relentlessly unkind to themselves.
They survived…until they couldn’t anymore. They were just 63 and 66.
đź’ˇ What I learned:
I am so passionate about self-care because I know I’m not the only one whose parents never taught them how to take care of themselves.
And kids? They notice everything. Not just what we say and do, but what we don’t say and do.
🚸 Studies show that parental behaviors directly impact children's well-being. And beyond science, we can see it:
- Kids notice when we put ourselves last.
- They see when we overextend for systems that don’t serve us.
- They absorb the way we treat ourselves.
So, how do we start breaking these cycles?
