Self-Care as Resistance
When I think about God, I think about triangles. šŗ
Equilateral triangles, to be specificāeach angle dependent on the other two.
Which is to say:
š The way we relate to ourselves
š The way we relate to each other
š The way we relate to something bigger
ā¦are all deeply connected.
š New here? I refer to God as Jerry Gergich from Parks & Rec. Hereās why š¼š
Now listenā
Itās way easier to treat yourself (or others) like š© when youāre not actively in relationship with something beyond yourself.
When youāre not living as a steward of unconditional love, things fall apart.
And sure, this might sound rich coming from meāa heathen with a capital H.
Maybe itās even activating your old evangelical trauma.
But Iām not talking about dogma.
Iām talking about systems.
We are each part of something vast.
Our thoughts create ripplesāsometimes microscopic, sometimes seismic.
š„ When your relationship with your Self and your Higher Power is strong,
Youāre harder to manipulate. Period.
Because hereās the truth:
Knowing who the f**k you are is resistance.
Let me explain. š
I recently read a paper by Xiaoxiao Shen. š§
It explored how psychological needs create profiles that are more vulnerable to propaganda.
Check out these wild findings (emphasis mine):
š§© Propaganda that appeals to ego-defensive needs (AKA self-esteem protection) is the most effective.
š§© People with high ego-defensive needs are more susceptible.
š§© Propaganda works best when it matches your psychological vulnerabilities.
So yesāSelf-Care is resistance.
⨠Strengthening your relationship with Self + Spirit ā stronger critical thinking
⨠Stronger critical thinking ā harder to manipulate
This is sacred.
This is political.
This is the work.
š Self-care > self-concept > spiritual connection > resistance
Yours in Resistance,
M.
