Understanding Venus Retrograde

Venus, the planet of love, relationships, beauty, and finances, goes retrograde approximately every 18 months. This celestial event is an invitation to slow down, reflect, and recalibrate areas of your life governed by Venus. Rather than fearing retrogrades, approach them as opportunities for deep introspection and transformation. Themes that may surface include reevaluating partnerships, revisiting past relationships, reassessing financial goals, and realigning with your sense of self-worth.

The planet Venus has long been revered for its striking brilliance in the sky, symbolizing beauty, love, and abundance in cultures spanning the globe. In Roman mythology, Venus was the goddess of love and fertility, associated with charm, harmony, and prosperity. Similarly, the Greeks worshipped Aphrodite, whose stories highlighted the creative and destructive potential of passion.

In the ancient Scottish Caledonian tradition, Venus’ themes find resonance in Brìghde, the goddess of the hearth, fertility, and creative transformation. Brìghde was seen as a bridge between the mundane and the divine, embodying the cycles of creation and renewal central to Venus’ retrograde energy. Caledonian Druids also observed Venus’ unique path through the sky, connecting it with seasonal changes and opportunities for reflection and growth.

You know how I’m often saying that we can’t have the big festivals and Sabbats without the everyday sweeping of the hearth and fetching of the water, that’s the jist of this six weeks. The exhale is just as much a part of the breath as the inhale.

From its mythological origins to modern astrology, Venus invites us to find balance between love, abundance, and self-awareness, reminding us that beauty begins within.

During Venus Retrograde (March 1 - April 12, 2025), you may notice old patterns resurfacing or unresolved issues coming to light. A lot of what you’ll read about this period will tell you it is not ideal for starting new relationships, making major financial investments, or undergoing drastic changes to your appearance.

Howeverrrrrr, I don’t agree. When Venus plays peekaboo, I am at my most potent and alchemical, and although the risks are higher for your relationshis, your coins, and your hair, the rewards stand to be significantly higher than usual as well. As long as you’re willing to look the potential shitshow in the face and say, “What could be is worth the risk,” I say go big rather than going home.
